======================================================================= Introduction ======================================================================= Make up your own rules ... These rules are only a framework for your imagination. .... There are two important rules of thumb to remember when it comes to breaking, changing or ignoring these rules. First, maintain the spirit and intent of the game. ... Second, be consistent. (Gamma World, 2nd ed., p.3) --------------- Why Gamma Hero? --------------- I really love the old classic GAMMA WORLD setting, but I think that the HERO SYSTEM rules are far more flexible. So, I thought I'd convert a great old game to a better game system to improve and expand upon the play of an old nostalgaic favourite. In short, a great setting matched with a better rules system. However, converting one game system to another is not an exact science! In general, one has to be willing to change some things from the original game in doing a conversion. Or why even bother converting? If you like the original game 'as it is' you'd just play it 'as it is'. In converting one game system to another, one is simply trying to maintain the feeling and keep the things that you like and improve upon (or eliminate) the things that you don't like. Thus, conversion is as much interpretation (subjective) as it is conversion (objective). One has to find the balance between the two systems that suits their own style; naturally, these notes describe mine but, hopefully, you'll find something of value herein... =======================================================================
